I saw it way back in secondary school and always meant to watch it properly at home although I've not caught it on Sky or similar - may end up just buying it as I do remember it being good.
Not quite a film but tonight I was watching Halo Legends which is pretty much Halo's Animatrix, it's eight cartoons set in the Halo universe looking at some different aspects. I really enjoyed Animatrix from the stunning CG in the opening Flight of the Osiris to the entire backstory of the Matrix along with some other genuinely interesting takes on the Matrix universe. Despite being a Halo fan though I wasn't immediately attracted to Legends as I wasn't keen on the over the top style in the graphic novel, unfortunately Hal Legends just doesn't work at all mainly because it's trying to take a very American franchise and making it very Japanese. Some of it is just comically bad with Elites wearing Samurai armour and gets worse with Spartan mk II's removing their helmets to reveal themselves as having long blond hair and massive eyes. In the Matrix universe where there are no rules it meant they Animatrix segments could go as far as they want while still fitting in with the Matrix whereas within the tightly defined rules of the Halo universe many of the cartoon segments just look daft. Unbelievably there's even a comedy which I assume came from the studio responsible for Dragonball Z featuring the spartan 117 which was just painful to watch. The last episode which is a CG one has some pretty decent sections in it mixed with daft ones although the style of CG is odd, it's sort of a half cel-shaded type which is mostly reminiscent of some older CG programs, it's certainly not up to the standard of the Halo trailers nor what CG can offer these days.
